Dog & Pony Show

Dog & Pony Show was an hour-long live sketch comedy birthed from the minds of seven midwestern comics – Ryan Solomon, Mike Kitzman, Will Frazier, Kim Scarfe, Jessica Elwell, Eric Allan, and myself, with Travis Cherniss and Ellen Bogue rounding out the lineup after the first three shows. I’ve often described the show as a weirder version of SNL, with sketches often bouncing between stage and video segments within the same storyline. Each show was written collaboratively, and consisted of 80-90% new material, with one or two previously well-received sketches making an appearance.

We debuted to a standing-room-only performance at the 4th Street Theater, then expanded to larger venues, performing to 130+ people at the Des Moines Social Club’s new theater and 150+ during its two-night fifth stint at the Stoner Theater. The group’s seventh hour-long show at the Des Moines Social Club sold out, followed later in 2016 by Dog & Pony Forever – the group’s farewell show, celebrating three years of consistent performance. Members have since moved to different parts of the US to pursue different creative projects, but we’ve all expressed the desire to reunite at some point down the road.
